College Park Stormwater Improvements in Lynchburg, VA
In 2021, GKY and Associates, Inc. (GKY) assisted the City of Lynchburg in developing a Master Plan for College Park, an existing City park that was primed for revitalization. GKY worked with the City and the planning team to develop a Master Plan that would meet the stormwater, recreational, and maintenance needs of the stakeholders. The existing park contains a series of five stormwater detention facilities, as well as a basketball court and passive recreation areas. GKY focused on the stormwater management needs, which included reducing flooding at the adjacent roadways and reducing future maintenance efforts. In 2024, GKY produced the final plans for the stormwater management retrofit facilities. This presentation will cover design considerations, including modeling ponds in series, adhering to the overall park master plan, improving the maintenance of the pond facilities, and reducing overall flooding at the outfall.
