George Mason University Water Quality Monitoring Project
George Mason University (Mason) Land Development (LD) office conducts water quality monitoring around the Fairfax campus routinely to keep track of local streams’ health. In 2024, Mason received DEQ Citizen Monitoring Grants which enabled Mason LD to expand its effort to include a newly restored stream. Mason LD took samples along the restored stream and tested several parameters including total nitrogen, turbidity, pH, and dissolved oxygen to determine the overall health of the restored stream. In collaboration with Mason College of Engineering, the project also provided valuable hands-on experience for the student interns to gain insight on the water quality management process.
