Lake Monroe Riser Failure
On January 5, 2022, a structural failure occurred at the bottom of the CMP riser structure for Lake Monroe in King George, VA. The lake level began to drop and embankment material started to erode away into the riser. This presentation will cover what ensued in the subsequent hours, days, weeks, and months, including emergency coordination, homeowner evacuation, interim repair measures, development of repair design plans, DCR and King George County permitting, and ultimately, construction.
