Real-Time Data Insights for Environmental Protection: Lessons from Two Regions

Aquatic Informatics’ presentation will focus on the modernization of stormwater data management and the importance of data in managing flood events. We will highlight the experiences of two different regions, the City of Orlando in the Southeast coastal region of the US and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in Ontario, Canada.

The presentation will discuss how the City of Orlando utilizes a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution to manage high-intensity storm events and prevent localized flooding. By leveraging effective data management, the city is able to quickly evaluate and address street flooding, ensuring citizen safety and minimizing liability. The adoption of this platform has not only improved data accessibility and sharing with citizens but also empowered better decision-making and government compliance.

On the other hand, the TRCA in Ontario focuses on watershed management and the responsible management of hydrological features. We will share insights on their proactive approach to flood monitoring using modern sensor and data management technology. Attendees will learn about the data collection and correction process, as well as real-world lessons from significant environmental events in the region.

Our presentation offers valuable insights into innovative practices and the importance of real-time data analysis for public safety and environmental protection, making it relevant to organizations from all over who are looking to improve the health of their lakes and watersheds.

Thank you.
