Successfully Communicating Stormwater Management with the Public

Michael W. Mundy, PE, Stormwater Program Manager, CVB Public Works

The City of Virginia Beach has worked hard to develop partnerships with our residents regarding storm drainage issues.  This presentation will cover some of the successful strategies for communicating with the public after flooding events and during design of projects.  These strategies include:  reviewing the history of drainage for the neighborhood; capturing public concerns, input and ideas; create an understanding of the process; study the problem and show the public the outcomes; successful types of take aways; developing a program for the project; and being accessible.
