Brooke Road – A 2-D Flood & Mitigation Analysis of a Roadway Within a Floodplain

Brooke Road, a rural arterial road in the floodplain fringe of Accokeek Creek experiences frequent flooding which causes traffic disruptions, inconvenience, and hinders emergency access to the adjacent neighborhoods. This road lies at the base of a series of steep slopes and runs in parallel with the floodplain.   In order to understand the causation of flooding  and potential mitigation opportunities, Stafford County and Timmons Group worked together to evaluate the flooding and potential mitigation opportunities for a variety of conditions, storm events, and improvements.  This presentation will provide an overview of project, constraints and considerations, challenges of the evaluation, and an overview of the 2D hydraulic analysis.
